So long, farewell!

They say that there are many stages to grief, but when your parents drive away after the most fantastic vacay ever there are only really three. First you weep and mourn the loss of beer for lunch and laughter and joy. Then you move on to blame and glare at Gus Diggs with hateful eyes because if not for his brilliant academic career you would be able to spend gobs of time with your amazing parents whenever you wanted to. Once that phase passes and Gus breathes a massive sigh of relief then you are able to take a step back and appreciate the lessons that you have learned.

First of all our trip was really incredible. Despite some car trouble set backs in the beginning my parents arrived safe and were welcomed to my humble abode in very grandiose style. No detail spared for their comfort kind of thing. Hehe no but really we bought new pillows and stuff… that counts right? Then we immediately set off on adventures throughout the tri-state area. We went to wineries, breweries, cafes, pizza parlors, grocery stores… wait are you beginning to sense a trend here? No but really we love to eat, and we had days and days worth of fabulous food and adventures.

It was great to have my parents be able to stay at the house and feel comfortable and welcome. Henry was very glad to see his Grandparents and we were spoiled with Easter baskets and beer imported all the way from the Commonwealth. There was lots of gossip, giggling and much mockery of the local flavor. Which is hard to explain, but when experienced first hand there really are no words. Most important thought my parents gave me a sense of hopefulness and well being.

It is very easy to feel insanely cut off from everyone and everything being so far away from home but they made a point to come out and play. They have not forgotten about us after all! People move and lives change but the people you love are still there for you and supportive and wonderful and that was proven time and time again. My mother has inspired me to keep in touch with others better than I have been, and she also was the swift kick in the pants I needed to start remodeling work on my previously unfinished downstairs bathroom. There are many bright changes ahead in the future. We have grown to appreciate our new location for the random and surreal place that it is, and we were able to show Mom and Dad the quirks and interesting bits that make this place inhabitable and seeing it through their eyes made it almost seem ok :)

I will be posting some pictures of our wonderful travels soon but I just want to thank Mom and Dad for taking the time to come all the way out here to spoil us, and for the rest of you loyal readers you are always welcome. Its fun, seriously, just ask my parents!
